This post is dedicated to comparing the so called “staple” bronzers that beauty bloggers rave about constantly. Now , I know from experience that following popular opinion doesn’t always turn out the way one would expect it to, so , if you are confused between the two shades available by Nars, look no further for the answer is here!
Contestant number one : Nars – Laguna (£27)
This bronzer is clearly not the cheapest bronzer out there, but boy is it worth every single penny! I hate to rave about this product as I’m sure you’ve all heard it before, but this is the one product I will say deserves the “hype” surrounding it !
There are many positives to this bronzer, firstly being that it is an amazing multi-functional powder, If you are young or not particularly familiar with makeup or how to apply it, this bronzer is amazing to use as an eyeshadow! It means avoiding the complicated nature of applying two or more shadows and blending them to perfection, Laguna all over the lid and blended up to the crease makes for a beautiful easy to blend shadow, especially for us brown eyed ladies ! (and us ladies who don’t like to spend too much time on their makeup! )
I also often use it as a blush, in other words I’ll apply the bronzer all other my cheeks, and go in with a darker colour ( often casino) for a sharper contour if that is the look I am going for. It’s always nice to have an all over bronze look with dewy skin, it suits every single skin tone and is impossible to get wrong.
Secondly, and perhaps the most important point, it makes for an amazing bronzer ! Now, if you’re using it with the intention of contouring don’t be worried if you spot shimmer in the pan, this does not transfer to your face, it does have a sheen, but somehow it still has the effect of a matte bronzer ( magic LOL!) , so for the purposes of this post, we’ll call it a matte finish. Thus, if you’re going for that Kim K contour this will give you just that, I also find that it is incredibly difficult to over do it with this bronzer, your brush will always pick up the perfect amount of bronzer every time.
However, be warned that if you prefer a sun kissed look , then this shade may disappoint, as it tends to provide a very natural looking contour as opposed to a sun kissed bronze, however, what I would recommend instead is the:
Nars Casino (£27):
Nars casino is very much similar to Laguna, however it is deeper in tone. I love it if i want to look sun kissed and bronzed, this could also pass as a contour powder if your skin is deep enough in tone, lighter skin tones run the risk of having a muddy looking contour( but if thats the look you’re going for, I say work it!)
I will stress however, not to be put off from purchasing Casino if you are lighter in skin tone, as again it works brilliantly at bronzing your complexion in a natural way, it will bronze your skin in a way that makes you look naturally tan, but in a deeper colour and less natural looking way than Laguna otherwise would.
Again this can double up as an eyeshadow, and be used as a blush alternative when one wants to simply achieve a bronzed look , this again has a sheen but achieves the effect of a matte bronzer.
I also want to bring attention to the fact that this bronzer is MASSIVELY under rated, I prefer it to Laguna on many occasions as I am definitely a wear it all or wear none at all kind of girl. If I wear bronzer I want to look bronzy ( not sure if that word exists LOL), whereas Laguna does lead to a more natural look. ( which I often go for when in a rush )
The verdict is definitely a tie, I love both products equally, and if one has the means I would definitely recommend both, however , different people will have different criteria and needs
To sum up, If:
a. you like a natural look and contour
b. you have a very fair complexion
c. you want the perfect toned contour powder
go for Laguna !
If:
a. you have a medium to deep skin tone, ( not necessarily as I am an NC20 in Mac and still adore casino for a bronzed look, but if you’re looking to contour definitely NC30+)
b. you want to look as if you’ve just been to the Caribbean
go for Casino!
Hope this helps make your decision a tad bit easier! Or even persuaded you to try either of the products, let me know your thoughts and opinions guys! xoxo
It’s two hours past midnight and Bentley is curled up in a ball sleeping right beside me (loudly if I may add, who knew a dog as small as him could snore so loudly). Meanwhile, I’m glued to my laptop ready to finish this entry before the sun is up.
I’ve wanted to compare these bronzers for you ever since I bought a box of Benefit Hoola. Nars Laguna was my second choice, and for a long time I couldn’t pick between the two. After all they’re both what most girls call their Holy Grail bronzers.
So I did what any confused shopper would do and looked at the price tags. Hoola was cheaper, so Hoola it was. I used it a lot, loved it, and finally hit pan on it. As a replacement, I now regularly use the Nars Laguna Bronzer. I thought it would be interesting to share a good comparative review of the two just in case, like me, you’re curious about which of them is a better purchase.
Nars came in its usual sleek iconic packaging, in which every Nars owner knows — will be covered with makeup smudges after a month. But even then I still like it over Benefit’s cute quirky boxes, just out of preference. Those boxes scare me. I trained my hands to handle it very carefully, in fear that it might tear off into two pieces (it didn’t by the way).
Just out of curiosity, which packaging do you guys prefer?
From afar, both bronzer shades look like twins. But up close, you’ll spot the tiniest specks of gold within the Nars Laguna Bronzer. I worried that they might turn my T-zone awfully shinny. But when the Laguna is on my skin, I barely notice any shimmer. Instead, it translates into a beautiful glowy sun-kissed tan.
Benefit Hoola Bronzer though, is a plain matte bronzer. It can easily be understated beside the golden Nars Laguna, but Hoola has it’s own special tricks as well. It can imitate how shadows would look like on skin (it’s quite intense on the swatch but when blended its beautiful), which makes it the perfect bronzer for sculpting that Kim Kardashian facial contour (or a slightly less intense contour than hers). I like to swipe this on my jawline to slim my face down a bit.
Quality wise, they both make me so proud for lasting an entire day. Although, of course, after a very long while they will fade and will require a little retouching. You can build up their color from the lightest touch of bronze to a darker shade. But Hoola can go a few more shades darker, which is why your skin tone will also play a role in picking between the two bronzers. In most cases I believe light-medium skintones will benefit more with Laguna, while medium-dark skintones will look best with Hoola.
Even though Nars Laguna and Benefit Hoola are both excellent bronzers, they aren’t really that alike. Laguna for me is the best bronzer to warm up my entire face. It adds this beautiful light golden tan to my skin. While Hoola, is the perfect bronzer for contouring (and to be honest not as flattering to use all over the face). Don’t get me wrong though, I can still use Laguna for a light contour too, but Hoola does the job a lot better.
If I had to choose just one bronzer, I’d pick Nars Laguna just because I use it more often. Plus, I can easily go through my makeup routine without contouring my face. But if I didn’t have to choose, having both bronzers is a really good treat. They work so well together. If you want something for contouring grab yourself a box of Hoola, but if you want a bronzer to warm up your face go for Laguna. Hope this post was useful for you. What’s your favorite bronzer?
