At the Montreal Casino our Bad Beat Jackpot is at $681k and if not won will cross $700k this Thursday or Friday.
Curious as to what the actual record is for real world games (saw $1.8M for online)?
I googled and found a real world at combined Ceasar's properties AC hitting $787k in 2012 and $914k in Vegas in 2013. Having a hard time believing that's the highest! I seem to recall hearing of one at Foxwoods around the same amount but can't find anything online.
FYI .. the last jackpot was won in late May. $1 is taken per cash game pot above $20. 80% goes to the current pot, 20% goes to next pot (already removed from the current total). There is no rake at all on the BBJ. It currently goes up $5-6k per day mon-thur and 6-7k per day fri-sun. We've actually added tables to go from 18 to 23 to keep up with demand.
Quad 8s and up are needed to win. Pockets must be used (pairs for quads). Breakdown is 50% loser, 25% winner and 25% table.
There's a secondary BBJ of $10k for AAAJJ or better bad beats (taken from the 20% dedicated to the next jackpot).

Two Plus Two Poker Forums Poker News & Discussion Poker Beats, Brags, and Variance: Won the Bad Beat Jackpot at Casino Montreal. The Bad Beat jackpot is a progressive jackpot that rewards the player with the worst beat hand, the other players at their table, as well the other players in the room. If you appear to be favoured to win the hand but are beaten at the showdown, you are the big winner of the Bad Beat jackpot! Losing has never been this rewarding. May 06, 2020 Gambling News Quebec’s monopoly gambling service, Loto Quebec, disclosed that the operator’s OK Poker game available at Espace-Jeux online gambling site had awarded the highest ever online bad beat jackpot. Players at the table the previous week grabbed a whopping CAD 755,896. I was playing at the Montreal casino the other day when the table next to me won the bad beat jackpot of 520k, which is one of the biggest bad beat jackpots in the casino's history. The hand consisted of a straight flush beating another straight flush. What was also amazing was that a K-high flush was also all-in before the river.

Busy room. Casino Arizona's Poker Room in Scottsdale is busier but the qualifier is lower so it hits much more often. I've never heard of a million dollar Bad Beat Jackpot, so maybe the 914k you found is the record?

We hit $750,081 today! Should hit a million before the holidays if it's not won before that!
Yeah .. we're far from the busiest .. but we do ok .. getting really busy last few weeks though obviously .. lol. I left at 10pm tonight and there was 111 people on the 1/2 list waiting to play. Not even really peaking at 10pm either! lol
Someone today told me they saw a $1.1 million bad beat at Fallsview in Niagara .. but a Google search turned up nothing so i'm pretty doubtful!

For the record, a lot of poker rooms are moving away from the Bad Beat, in favor of a High Hand jackpot. The reason is simple:
Give a guy a few hundred bucks, and that money is going to be in play. Maybe at the poker table, maybe at one of the table games, but it's gonna see action.
Give a guy a few hundred grand, and a couple grand will go into play, but the rest is heading home, spent outside of the casino.
So if you were a casino, would you rather give a thousand guys a few hundred bucks spread out over a few thousand hours, or one guy a few hundred grand all at once?
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

But how many people are drawn by the huge number, when they would otherwise not be?

It's effective and has been implemented a long time by the casino industry. Bad beats were different and do produce lots of word of mouth advertising and incentive for people to visit though. Made me sick seeing the BBJ $9,999 at the local knowing they've probably done this. Cheap tricks and cheapness have been all around there and they're already driving loyals away, so just one more thing. Too much can backfire but casinos don't get this even after bankruptcy.

Of course 100 guys 1 or 2 hundred. However a bigger BB JP attracts more players. For instance when the Orleans BB JP used to get past 70k they gained 50% extra player. People love the chance at a big JP.

The good compromise that I see a lot is a Monte Carlo board. Hands of Quads or better broken up into separate progressive jackpots. You get the attraction of growing numbers getting word of mouth going, but they're still small enough where you might get it back.
Casinos are not your friends, they want your money. But so does Disneyland. And there is no chance in hell that you will go to Disneyland and come back with more money than you went with. - AxelWolf and Mickeycrimm

I know it was a rhetorical question .. lol .. but the answer is a LOT! Some say our numbers have doubled .. I'm not sure it's that high .. but not far from that! There's a native casino on a reserve not too far from the Island of Montreal that usually does ok and we've pillaged some of their players, along with a few new players, and the our regulars who come more often and/or play longer sessions.
BTW .. today we beat the record for the 4 room Ceasar's in AC by a few hundred .. we're now at $787,671
Only one left that I know of in a real room is Planet H in Vegas last year of $914k

I remember four winds casino in new buffalo, Michigan had a static million dollar BBJ on their electronic tables. It was ridiculously hard to hit though. Might have been something like a royal flush has to beat quads or better. The closest ive ever come to hitting a bbj was at the Orleans. I lost with queens full to a straight flush. He hit the low end of the straight flush on the river. If it was the high end it would've given me quads also.
